What is it?

Hypnosis is a way of by-passing the conscious mind and working with the unconscious mind by shifting internal representational systems. This means changing our thinking and behaviour and getting in touch with our deep values and beliefs.

Hypnotherapy is a potent technique which can help to develop deep-rooted, long-lasting, positive changes in our lives. With my clients I commonly use hypnosis for:

Practicalities

 
For weight loss, confidence, stress, pain, relaxation, phobias and others normally 3 sessions are needed at £75 per session (£225 total), sessions last an hour.

For smoking cessation it is one (breakthrough session) lasting 2 hours costs £145.

Sessions take place at consulting rooms in
Liverpool or at your home/premises.

There are discounts for working with groups and organisations

Medical Research

 

A current review of The National Library of Medicine, also know as Pub Med, uncovered over 10,000 articles concerning medical hypnosis. The documented effective uses of hypnosis in medicine are wide-ranging, and include, hypnosis for: Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Hypertension, non-pharmacological anaesthesia, Tinnitus, Pain Relief, Anxiety and Panic disorders, Asthma, Insomnia, Enuresis, Cancer, AIDS, Hepatitis C, and Diabetes.

Here are just some of the research findings:
** Over a six-year period, 173 patients suffering from asthma were treated using self-hypnosis. 82% were either much improved or experienced total symptom remission. (British Journal of Medicine, 23:447-55.)
**In a study of 189 people with psychological issues relating to sex, it was proven that self-hypnosis combined with cognitive therapy was more effective than cognitive therapy alone.

 

Hypnotized patients required fewer sessions, had less frequent relapse and expressed greater satisfaction with the outcome. (Australian Journal of Clinical Hypnotherapy & Hypnosis, 1998: Sep., vol. 19(2):41-48.)
** Fibromyalgia patients assigned to a 12-week program of hypnotherapy showed significantly better outcomes with respect to pain management, waking fatigue, sleep pattern and overall health assessment than patients receiving physical therapy. ( Journal of Rheumatology, 18 (1), 72-75.)

Hypnotherapy to stop smoking

 

How good is it going to be when someone offers you a cigarette and you say ‘no thanks’?

Quitting smoking should not be difficult or unpleasant. The stopping smoking session or sessions will include hypnotherapy techniques, positive affirmations and suggestions.

Even though nicotine is a difficult substance to go without when giving up smoking, but after a few days it is out of your system and most smokers agree that quitting smoking for a few days is difficult but very achievable.

Then why don’t they do it? Often because they haven’t dealt with the psychological aspects of smoking, why they smoke and what is their positive intention behind smoking. Sometimes will power alone is not enough when you have other things going on in your life that make you reach for a cigarette.

If you think that stopping smoking is depriving you of something, then it is just a matter of time until you start again. Hypnotherapy is ideal for this. Using hypnosis, you can deal with all of the emotional and psychological aspects of giving up smoking.

Low levels of confidence can limit our lives.

It can stop us from having our say whether that is at work or in our relationships. It can stop us from getting the type of job we want and from being the type of person that we would love to be.

Lack of confidence can make us feel awkward and uncomfortable. It can sap our energy and make us feel small and limited.

Sometimes events can ‘knock’ our confidence. Like losing your job or having an accident or illness.

We need confidence in all aspects of our lives including meeting new people, attending a job interview, taking a test, speaking in front of others, overcoming shyness, asserting our rights, making a complaint, making decisions,etc.

Hypnosis can help you to get your confidence back or to develop confidence where you never had it. It can give you an easy form of relaxed and assured confidence where you are comfortable with the person you are. You move in a confident way, you project an air of confidence and people see you as a confident person.

Hypnotherapy for pain control

 

 

It is a little known fact that hypnosis is very effective in relieving and controlling pain.

 

Please note that I will never use hypnosis to treat pain unless the cause of that pain is already known and has been diagnosed by a medical practitioner

 

Pain should never be treated for its own sake, but if the underlying cause is known and your doctor gives permission, hypnosis can be very effective in relieving pain.

Hypnotherapy is used in a variety of situations for treating pain, including the following:

 

  • Post-operative pain - where traditional painkillers aren't appropriate, perhaps because you are afraid of needles, you just don’t like being dependent on medication or you are allergic to medication
  • Chronic pain – where you have a long term condition which, although treated, is still resulting in pain and discomfort and your medication is not helping.
  • Phantom limb pain - amputees sometimes experience pain from limbs which have been removed, and research has shown that hypnosis has had impressive results in treating this kind of pain.

  1. Take a questionnaire and complete it and return it at least two days before your appointment.

The sessions are friendly and informal with lots of chatting, particularly in the first session.

 

We will talk through your questionnaire, identify your issues or problems and what you want to work through

 

I will normally conduct a check you suggestibility to hypnosis.

I will induce a light relaxed trance, then, deepen the trance and conduct the necessary therapy work. I will implant positive post hypnotic suggestions that will work after the session. Finally, I will bring you back from the trance, discuss future sessions.

On your final session I will teach you how to hypnotize yourself so that you are able to maintain your progress without me.
